Willoughby Municipal Veterans Treatment Court

Willoughby Municipal Court received certification by The Ohio Supreme Court in November of 2021 for a specialized docket to offer a therapeutically oriented judicial approach to providing court supervision and appropriate treatment to veterans. The goal of the Willoughby Municipal Veterans Treatment Court (WMVTC) is to provide veterans involved in the Willoughby Municipal Court the necessary treatment, services, and support so that they may lead stable, law-abiding, and healthy lives as positive and productive members of this community.

The biggest difference between the WMVTC and regular community control is the amount of contact between you and the Veterans Treatment Court/Probation Officer, treatment staff, and Judge Cornachio. You are required to attend regularly scheduled status review hearings before Judge Cornachio.

You are provided with support (including a veteran mentor), assessments, evaluations and treatment services for a number of conditions that may not be available to defendants placed on supervision with the probation department.

You are evaluated for post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse and other medical and health conditions. You are also evaluated for neurological conditions that may affect learning or behavior. The results of these evaluations are used to determine if this program will help you lead a stable, law-abiding life.
