JUDGE LARRY ALLEN

Judge Larry Allen began his third six-year term as Judge of the Willoughby Municipal Court on January 1, 2006, is a Kirtland resident with 3 adult children, and has 5 grandchildren. Prior to being elected Judge, he was in the private practice of law in downtown Willoughby for nearly 22 years and was Willoughby's Prosecutor, then Law Director for 14 years.

Judge Allen received his B.A. from Kent State and his Juris Doctorate through the night school program at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, Sixth Circuit Appellate and Northern District Federal Courts, the Ohio Supreme Court, and all Ohio and New York State Courts.

Judge Allen was elected to his first term in the Willoughby Municipal Court commencing January 1, 1994. He is a member of the American Judges Association, currently serving as a member on the Board of Governors, as Co-Chairman of the Public Relations Committee and a member of the AJA Law Student Essay Competition Review Committee. He is a member of the Ohio Judicial Conference Ad Hoc Committee on Community Corrections, a member of the Association of Municipal and County Judges of Ohio and a member of the Northern Ohio Municipal Judges Association, of which he is a past President. Judge Allen is a state certified instructor for the Lakeland Community College Police Academy and is an honorary member of the Lake County Association of Chiefs of Police. He has also served on the Supreme Court Criminal Law and Procedures Committee, the Local Government and Law Committee, the Local Corrections Planning Committee, and the Advisory Committee on Substance Abuse and Court Procedures. Additionally, Judge Allen served as Referee in the Willoughby Municipal and Lake County Juvenile Courts and as a Lake County Common Pleas Arbitration Chairman. He was a member of the Lake County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Lake County Bar Association Grievance Committee. He is a member of the Lake County Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association and is a past member of the New York State Bar Association. He was Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and has served as an Administrative Vice President of (N.E. Council) Boy Scouts of America. He is currently a member of the Knights of Columbus, AOPA, and AARP. Judge Allen is also a current member and Past President of the Willoughby Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.
