The Court establishes a bail schedule for misdemeanor offenses. The bail schedule is part of the local Court rules. Bond on felony offenses shall be set by the Court at arraignment. In addition to establishing a dollar amount for bond, the Court may establish additional bond conditions when individual circumstances warrant same.
Bond is accepted at the Clerk's office Monday - Friday from 7:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M. The arresting police department accepts evening and weekend bonds. Bonds on felony bindover cases to the Lake County Common Pleas Court will be accepted by the Willoughby Municipal Court Clerk's office up to the time the case file has been transferred to the Lake County Common Pleas Clerk of Court. The Lake County Common Pleas Clerk of Court will then accept Bond. Bond is also accepted by the Lake County Jail on behalf of cities/villages that use the Lake County Jail to house prisoners in lieu of arraignment.
Surety bonds involve a monetary transaction between a party and a licensed bail bondsman. Local bail bondsmen can be found in the yellow pages of the telephone book. All bail bondsmen are required to have current paperwork on file with the Clerk of Court before writing a surety bond. When a licensed bail bondsman writes a surety bond, he/she will file a power of attorney in the total amount of the bond with the Clerk.
All bonds require completion of an appearance bond form by the defendant and the depositor if the depositor is someone other than the defendant.
